- Northwest Tibetan Choir in Portland, Oregon
In 2001, Aaron collaborated with the Northwest Tibetan Choir in Portland, Oregon to create a musical cross-cultural collaboration. The choir recorded vocals in Tibetan from a traditional Tibetan song and Aaron wrote original music to back the choir. This song "Nying Du La" was recorded for Aaron's CD, A Winter's Dance and was his first true cross-cultural collaboration. - Live Traditional Fijian Music recorded in the remote jungles of the Fiji Islands.
In March 2005, Aaron traveled to Qamea Resort & Spa in the Fiji Islands where he met Jale Mareau, one of the most famous musicians of traditional Fijian music. On the Island of Qamea (Northeastern Fiji) Aaron recorded the traditional music of Jale Mareau and the Qamea Resort band in the remote village of Waibulu and at Qamea Resort using a lap top computer, digital sequencing software, and with no electricity. Aaron and producer Bill Lamb created a CD of this unique traditional Fijian music. The Fijian music is sung in both English and Fijian and is very islandy, relaxing, and pleasing to the ear. The Fijians had never heard or seen a real violin before so introducing the violin to them was an exciting novelty. As fate would have it, Aaron befriended Fijian celebrity musician Jale Mareau, one of the most well known musicians of Fijian Traditional music. Connecting through music and becoming good friends, Aaron wanted to bring Jale to Portland. With the help of Unforgettable Honeymoons and The Fiji Visitors Bureau, Jale has performed at Aaron's annual Holiday Concert Series, "Holiday Music From Around The World" in December 2004, 05, & 06. While in Portland in December 2005, Jale Mareau recorded all the traditional and original music for his newest CD, "Isa Na Utoqu" (Oh My Heart) with producer Bill Lamb. Adding violins, violas, mandolins, and contemporary sounds, this CD is a true collaboration of Jale's traditional music, Aaron, and producer Bill Lamb. - Recording and Performing Traditional Music in the hills of Southeast Asia.
While on his annual tour to mainland Southeast Asia performing with the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra, Aaron recorded traditional Thai and Cambodian musicians. Aaron recorded hill tribe musicians in Thailand in the Golden Triangle after performing at The Four Season's newest resort, FourSeasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle, Thailand on New Year's Eve 2006. Along with Jason Friedman, fellow Lewis & Clark College friend and currently The Four Seasons Tented Camp Manager, Aaron and Jason presented a unique performance for The New Years Eve Gala. Jason arranged for 30 young violinists from the Maechan Hilltribe School in the Golden Triangle (photo at the top of this page) to perform some of their traditional hilltribe music with Aaron and Aaron arranged string parts for the students to perform along with him on some of his original songs. The students were made up of over 6 different ethnicities. Aaron will perform again with the students at this year's New Years Eve Celebration.
